Winemaker’s Tasting Notes

Aromas of strawberry, dried cherries, honey dew, lavender, tobacco leaf, cured prosciutto and fresh cracked pepper. Medium bodied with a robust entry that introduces flavors of raspberry, red licorice. This complex wine is balanced with rustic mid palate tannins and a long, wet finish.

Winemaking

The fruit was handpicked and transported to the winery where it was hand sorted and then crushed into a small open top tank via gravity. The must was foot treaded by the winemaker 2 to 3 times per day for color and tannin extraction. Once dry, the juice was drained and the skins were lightly pressed to French Burgundy barrels (30% new). Malolactic fermentation was completed in barrels and the wine was racked clean at this time.

Vintage Notes

The 2017 growing season started out with ideal weather conditions. After a very wet winter, there was plenty of moisture available to the vines which made for vigorous canopy growth and a healthy crop load. Summer temperatures were well above average and then a series of heat spikes at the end of the growing season quickly pushed the Grenache Noir to perfect ripeness.
